Own your data. Work with independent vendors. Use APIs.

Going forward, the best software strategy will be to OWN YOUR OWN data. Work with a reputable independent vendor who will respect your business with no alternative agenda. Be sure that all your software can interoperate with your other tools, most often by using an API (application programming interface), which is now the industry standard.

Software technology for Mortgage Brokers

The world of software is changing…

…even for mortgage brokers. And it’s a good thing!

Do you remember seeing furniture of this kind in your mother’s (or your grandmother’s) house?

All in one software. No thanks! All in one software. No thanks!

Back in the day, this was an amazing piece of technology. In one stylish cabinet, you had your turntable, your speakers, both an AM as well as an FM radio tuner. Heck, you even had a spot to store your favorite vinyl records. It was great, and that time, it certainly served a purpose.

Personalizing scheduled emails from your mortgage business

Is email a good thing, or a bad thing?

In a number of ways, BrokrBindr is all about trying to reduce the volume of email that you have to process in order to get a deal closed.

Email is not a “bad” thing, but email is not a great way to handle transactions. Almost by definition, a typical email message is obsolete the very moment after it is sent. For this reason, BrokrBindr provides both you and your clients with dynamic portals with real-time updates. Noone involved in a mortgage transaction need ever again wonder “did I send it?”, “did she receive it?”, “was the document reviewed?”. Thank goodness for BrokrBindr, right?

So, to repeat… email isn’t inherently bad, but it is a poor tool for active transactions.

Personalized, automated messaging

So what can email be good for?  So many things, just not transactional information! One of those things is personalized, scheduled reminder messages.

What is a CRM system and how can it boost your mortgage business

Some simple definitions:

  • CRM = customer relationship management
  • Manages all information about your clients and their business activity with you
  • Stores key dates and information to allow you to better manage your relationship with your clients

What is a CRM?  In a very real sense, it is an extension of the “contacts” or “phone book” you have on your smartphone. The only real difference is that it can include more data of higher quality.

Is “John Smith” already a customer? If so, when did we speak with him last? What did he buy, and what did he decline to buy? Should we be reaching out to him again? If so, when… and indeed with what message? Can we automate that whole process?

Marketer Jennifer Burnham summed up the importance of the R in CRM when she wrote on the Salesforce blog that “while a CRM system may not elicit as much enthusiasm these days as social networking platforms like Facebook or Twitter, any CRM system is similarly built around people and relationships.”  A CRM is your own mini social network filled with details about the people most important to your business.
